Who are you?
I'm a 19 year old singer/songwriter. I started making music at a rather late age (17) – but It's a passion thats really stuck with me. I got a keyboard for my birthday and began learning pop songs from artists like Billy Joel and Elton John – But I noticed my horizons started to broaden to places I never thought they'd go. I picked up jazz pieces and even classical pieces like Chopin and Charles Mingus. When I got a guitar later on, I really started to hone in on my sound and my technique. I think I offer something special because I write, sing, play, produce, and mix all of my songs – and though collaboration is a key method to making a great piece. I think my method is the trend for modern singer/songwriters, and has a very raw and pure connection to listeners.
Where are you from?
I come from Frederick Maryland. It's an artsy/hippie town with a vibrant music scene. It consists of a lot of hardcore metal and punk artists, and although that isn't how I'd label myself as an artist – I think it did have an affect on how I make music. Now I'm attending university in D.C. I've met acts such as Snail Mail and other friends who do shows here and I've drawn a lot of influence from them. It's a tight community for being a relatively large city – and the audience seems to be sophisticated and receiving.
